MISS CORY COFFEY & A NEW TV SHOW?
OJAI, CALIFORNIA (August 11, 2009) - Miss Cory Coffey announces the partnership with Freestyle USA and will be exclusively rocking their watches for this next year. "I'm really excited about working with Freestyle and look forward to bringing back my childhood favorite, the Shark Watch". Visit Freestyle's website and check out their entire collection!
The event was jam packed with amazing riders, crazy weather, and good times all around. The rain would pour for a little while then the contest organizers would use a crazy flame device to dry off the course. It was a long weekend for the girls, they had to constantly be on standby in case their discipline was called. The Mens/Womens Park event ended up being canceled in the end due to the fowl weather. The girls and I were totally bummed. I know I had been looking forward to seeing everyone ride and help crown a new world champion.
Over seventeen girls were present throughout the week and it was more than amazing. There were many great sessions that went down and we were all witness to the future of these sports.
Lyn-Z Adams-Hawkins was throwing down like no other on the vert ramp, firing out crazy mctwists. She never landed it, but that doesn’t mean much because it is still history in the making.
Thirteen year old Allysha Bergado was tearing it up on the vert ramp as well. This girl has been skating since she was seven years old and will be in the sport for a long time to come. When watching Lyn-Z try the mctwist, Allysha stated that “it makes me want to try it. I’m so excited for Lyn-Z to land it. It really helps pump me and progress.”
I had a wonderful time hanging out with all the girls, what an inspiration! My goal for next year is to double the amount of girls!

OJAI, CALIFORNIA -Two time World Champion BMX rider Miss Cory Coffey announces that she is going to defend her title in Cologne, Germany. Reports questioned if she would be able to compete due to her most recent ACL reconstruction surgery in November. However, on Monday, Miss Coffey said at her home in Ojai, that she was training for the July World Championships. "I know I have a lot of hard work ahead of me, but I am determined to give it a try. I think my knee will be ready" said Miss Coffey. Recently, she has lost some major sponsorships due to the current economic climate. She expressed that she would not let this stop her, "I am a woman in a male dominated sport. I will work hard to pick up more sponsors but it may be hard...I can't let this discourage me. I am just going to focus on riding and hope that I get picked up".
The International BMX Freestyle Federation announced on its web site that the World Championships will be held July 10-12 at the Cologne Jugendpark in celebration of the parks 25th anniversary. "I am excited to return to Germany, I really enjoy riding at the Jugendpark. The design of the park works well with my riding style and I think I have a very good shot at winning again" said Miss Coffey when asked about this years contest location.
I finally gave in and have dead people parts in me. I actually feel like I have balanced out my legs finally. five knee surgeries on each side, two acl reconstructions on each knee and multiplepeople often ask me if all of these knee surgeries and destroying myself was worth it in the end... I wouldn't trade it for the world and look at it like ive used the body I was given and made the most out of every opportunity. im pretty sure im still smiling!

Spring Camp was so awesome! We got snow the first two days which was amazing cause I love the snow. Woodward with snow is beautiful! I got to hang out with awesome kids, play in the snow, freeze my butt off, counseled some cool skateboard girls, and basically just have the time of my life!
Being at Woodward was the first time back since I smashed my face in. My mind was playing tricks on me a little bit, and I will admit that I was actually nervous to ride my bike again. All I kept thinking about was smashing my face in. I actually crashed one of the days again because it was so slippery again.
I think the moral of the story is that Woodward is awesome, riding bikes is a lot of fun, snow is amazing, and I guess just roll with the punches in life!
Women's Ride Weekend at Ray's Mt. Bike Park
(I will work on getting some photos up soon) Thanks again to Specialized for making it possible for me to attend this event!
so I smashed my face in on Monday and already had plans to fly out to Cleveland, Ohio for the Womens Ride Weekend at Ray's Mt. Bike park. I didn't want to waste my flight, so I flew out anyways on Friday... but by then, my neck had begun to stiffen and I could barely turn my head.
Before I left, the Athletic Trainer I work with hooked me up with an electric shock therapy thing that I could take with me. My weekend basically consisted of not being able to get out of bed unless I had a lot of medicine in me. I kind of have to give myself props though, knocked out 4 teeth, endured 4 root canals, broken nose, fractured maxilla, and then four days later fly across the nation for a bike event... too wiiiiiild!

Orange County Festival = Great Success!
I was down in San Juan Capistrano all day today and had a really awesome time. I wasn't riding due to the knee still, but was definitely watching everyone else shred! The freestyle moto guys were tearing it up with all sorts of wild combos and the BMX Stunt dudes were awesome. Gotta give a shout out to all the skateboarders as well. There was also the world video premiere of a surfing movie called "Walking on Water" that I watched a few minutes of...Seemed pretty awesome.

3 MONTHS IN THE MAKING...
I have some really wonderful news. Today, I rode my bike for the first time in over three months. Of course I have been cruising on the stationary bike in physical therapy, but that is out the door now. I pre
pared one of my mountain bikes to ride by raising the seat really high and cleaned it up. I stretched a lot at home, felt like I was ready to do it, so I went for it. My plan is to ride a little bit everyday, baby steps as I would like to put it. Gradually I will st
art cruising up hills working on muscle building. My legs look and feel like jello, but what a confidence boost. This is a long time coming people... wahooooooooooooooooooo
what I have been up to...

the knee is feeling better and better everyday. I am still resting up, waiting for the day when I can ride the bike again...patients is a virtue apparently.
Basically I have been painting, shooting photos of random things like always, playing on the computer and trying to stay as busy as possible without hurting my silly knee.
Knee Surgery # 8
I had surgery today and everything went well. They found the loose and broken hardware and removed it.I don't feel well due to the anesthetic, but am really determined to be done with all these knee surgeries already.
These are some photos of me and what the knee looks like today. They went in through a scope and managed to make 3 lovely holes.STUFF LIKE THIS ONLY HAPPENS TO ME, I SWEAR...
so I was sitting today for about 2.5 hours, went to stand up, and realized I couldn't straighten my knee without excruciating pain. I began to cry. I have been having a lot of pain and awkwardness for a few weeks, but today it was the worse. I called my knee Dr. crying and they gave me the go ahead to come in. I went in, explained what was wrong and he said that he needs to go back in because I must have loose hardware floating around inside my leg. Apparently it is stuck somewhere in the back part of my leg, stabbing my hamstring. Once again, I swear this stuff only happens to me. They injected my knee with a few fMy surgery is scheduled for September 5th, and should be fairly simple.
I headed up to Hume Lake with all the kids from the youth group. I had sooo much fun and of course they pulled a prank on me too. haha I was a counselor for some high school girls. It was a little rough having to trudge up and down the hills there, but managed to pull it off. I am doing well other than the fact I have a lot of pain when I take a step. It feels like something its catching on my hamstring... weird.
S&M Bikes 20th Anniversary Party!

So this weekend the X-games was going on and S&M Bikes decided to celebrate its 20th anniversary with a huge blowout. I brought all the girls along to experience this with me... had a wonderful time, saw all the bike riding buddies and had quite a time.
not being able to do anything
I have burnt myself out on watching movies, playing playstation, and being in pain. So I just go on drives to random places snapping photos of stuff that I think is cool. these are my latest:
staples removed
we took some X-rays of the knee today and this is what it looks like. You can see the two screws I have which thankfully are still in place. I ripped a screw out of my femur bone six years ago when I had my right knee reconstructed. I don't want to do that ever again.
Spinal Tap...
my headache that I was experiencing got progressively worse throughout the evening. I went to the emergency room and they started injecting me with all sorts of crazy pain medicine. The shots made me throw up and feel really out of it.
They couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. The Dr. decided to do a freaking spinal tap on me. And I thought that spinal tap was just a movie. Think again. I had a needle stuck in my spine and I cant even begin to describe how horrible this was.
Apparently I had this terrible headache due to the epidural I received when I had my surgery. Spinal fluid leaks in the brain or something weird and throws the pressure off, creating a terrible headache. I swear this stuff only happens to me. I have to go to the knee Dr. today and get my staples taken out. I dont feel well and dont even know how im going to make it there.
1 week aafter surgery and not feeling well...
so basically I had to pull it together today and make it to my hair appointment. Needless to say I got sick when I was there and threw up in the bathroom. I have a terrible headache and im not sure whats wrong with me. I have never had a headache like this before. I finally go back to the dr. tomorrow
POST SURGERY
the surgery went well. I stayed all day wednesday, and most of today in the hospital. Was hooked up to the morphine pump, was numb from the waste down the whole time, and somehow managed to get my sheets changed by the nurses a few times.
I don't feel well at all. The anesthesia makes me so sick. All I want to do is throw up. I've attempted to watch a couple dvds today, but just keep falling asleep.
preparing for battle, I mean surgery...
so tomorrow is my BIG day of reconstructive knee surgery. I am actually excited because I know that my knee will be fixed finally! I decided to do this right, so I stocked up on some dvd's, a new flat screen, the laptop, and last but not least, some sweet games for the playstation!
SURGERY DATE!!!
so it's been over four weeks now since my accident and I finally have a surgery date.
July 11th will be the day. We will do complete reconstructive knee surgery on my "good knee" turned bad. I am choosing to use my own tissues to make the new ligaments. My surgeon has performed 4/6 of my other knee surgeries, so I trust his abilities! wahoooooo.
feeling much better...
it's weird, my knee is finally not as swollen anymore and am able to walk around a lot better. Still waiting for my surgery date. In the meantime, I've been doing some school work cause I've got four classes to tend to this summer quarter.I went camping with some friends this weekend just for a night and had a really good time. We roasted marshmallows, derbed my friend's awesome truck up on top of our mountains, and basically just had the time of our lives.
the knee Dr. says:
I had my M.R.I. done on my knee yesterday and this is what my knee surgeon had to say...
my ACL is severed. The bone marrow in my femur is bleeding very bad and i blew out the meniscus. whats new? We will wait for a few weeks for the lovely insurance to approve everything and allow the swelling in my poor knee to go down. This means I will endure knee surgery number seven ( 5 surgeries on my right knee, and once already on my left). I hear that seven is lucky, so we will see.
being hurt=being creative
when I shot this photo today, it really meant something more to me than a tunnel. My hope is in Him, and He always guarantees light at the end of the tunnel...
I needed to have some sort of thrill in my life, so I pulled over and started snapping pictures of the machines that I love...
I love sunsets...
cheating death?
a couple of scraps and bruises on the ribs. pictures dont even begin to describe the pain I'm feeling in my back and sides.
a view of the knees. my right knee has had 5 knee surgeries on it, and the left knee is what I considered to be my "good knee". you can see how swollen the left knee is in the upper quad area. I can't walk at all right now. this is no fun. wonder how this is going to affect my summer.
my back hurts really bad too.
what really happend on Monday June 4th...
Erin and I started our decent down Gridley trail sometime in the evening. I had a weird feeling before we even headed down and said a few times that I would end up breaking my leg really bad or something. I crashed and flipped over my bike about 5 minutes into the ride, and think I hit my head on a rock. It wasn't that bad. Erin came upon me and made sure I was ok. I was fine.
We started charging down the hill again and I remember coming up on a really skinny part of the trail. There was a shear cliff on one side, and a bunch of bushes on the other. I think I hit a rock, so i stuck my left leg out to stop myself. After that, I felt and saw my left leg/knee bend the wrong way completely. My leg gave way and I proceeded to fly off that shear cliff backwards.
I think I initially fell about twelve feet, was able to grab onto some plants so I wouldn't go all the way down... the plants ripped out and my worst nightmare came true. I thought I was going to die. I was screaming bloody murder. I fell all the way down into a ravine and realized I was alive. I didn't want to look at my leg cause I was expecting bones to be sticking out. Everything started to hurt and I was screaming screaming screaming, to anyone who could hear me. I was crying out to God at the top of my lungs.
Erin found me a few minutes later and had to help navigate and climb me out of this ravine. A simple 2 minute walk took over an hour, and we were still a couple miles up from the main road. It was already getting dark and cold, we had no cell reception, and I wasn't about to be left alone up there. That left me with no other choice, than to coast my bike down the trail. I set the shocks on the cushiest setting, and held on for dear life. The pain was horrible and it wouldn't stop. I knew something was really wrong with my knee, my good knee too.
A friend met Erin and I at the bottom of the trail and then I went to the emergency room. One of the first things they did was inject me with morphine, and even with that, I was still in pain. X-rays showed no broken bones.
The Day the Sun Went Out...
my friend Erin and I thought it would be a grand idea to get dropped off on top of the Nordhoff ridge, have a lot of fun, and ride our mountain bikes down...
this is a view of my town from on top of the ridge. what a beautiful day
